Why Equipment
There is a ceiling on what a one-inch filter can do.
A standard filter sits in a slot about an inch deep. That is not much material to work with, so improving it means making the media denser — and denser media resists airflow. Past a point you are trading away the airflow your furnace or heat pump needs in order to catch slightly more dust. That trade is real, and it is why we push back when someone wants to jam the highest-rated filter they can find into a standard slot.
Installed equipment gets around the problem with surface area instead of density. A media cabinet four to five inches deep holds far more filter material spread across a much larger surface, so it can catch more while resisting airflow less than a dense one-inch filter. An electronic cleaner takes a different route again, charging particles so they stick to collector plates rather than straining them out.
Either way it is a change to the system, not a change of consumable. It gets installed once and then it is simply how your house filters air.

Which of these suits you depends on your equipment, the space around it, and whether you would rather buy media once or twice a year or wash a cell in the sink.
A deep cabinet fitted at the furnace or air handler, holding a thick pleated filter with several times the surface area of a one-inch filter. Catches more, restricts airflow less, and the media typically gets changed once or twice a year rather than monthly. The straightforward choice for most homes.
Charges particles as they pass and collects them on plates you wash rather than replace. No filter to buy, but it does need washing on a schedule — a neglected electronic cleaner stops working, quietly. Good fit if you would rather do a task than remember a purchase.
A lamp mounted to shine on the indoor coil and drain pan, the damp parts of your system where biological growth actually takes hold. It keeps that equipment clean. It is not a substitute for filtration and we will not sell it to you as one.
The install detail that matters: a media cabinet is physically deeper than the slot it replaces, so there has to be room for it at your equipment. That is the first thing we check, and occasionally the answer is that there isn't any. We would rather tell you that at the estimate than discover it on install day.
What To Expect
It filters the air. That's the claim.
This is a corner of the trade where the marketing gets loud, so here is ours in plain terms. A whole-house air cleaner removes more airborne particles — dust, pollen, pet dander, smoke — from the air moving through your system than a standard filter does. People with dust and allergy complaints often notice the difference. That is what the equipment does.
It only works on air that passes through the system, so it does nothing while the fan is off, and nothing about a source sitting in the room. It is not a medical device and we make no claims about illness. If someone tells you a box in your ductwork will fix a health problem, be careful with the rest of what they tell you.
And it is worth saying: if your existing filter is the wrong size or badly seated, fixing that costs a fraction of this and may be the whole answer. We will tell you when that is the case.
